6. Description of organization:

Thua Thien Hue Union of Science and Technology Associations (abbreviated as HUSTA) is a voluntary social and political organizations on sciences and technology in Thua Thien Hue Province. HUSTA was established under Decision No. 951QD/UBND on September 17, 1993 of the People's Committee of Thua Thien Hue province, began operations in 1995.

Based in Hue City, HUSTA’s activities are not for profit with legal status, seal, and financial assets. HUSTA has 40 association members and 8 organizations on science and technology directly under with many scientists and professional technicians.

HUSTA has carried out ​​the following main tasks: Dissemination of scientific and technological knowledge, organizing consultative, judgment and inspection of social activites, doing scientific research and technological development; transfering advance in  science and technology in producing, life and environmental protection; organising educational activities, training and vocational training, contributing to building  society, improving people's knowledge, personnel training and fostering talents; participate in community development, poverty reduction and health care.

In recent years, HUSTA has successfully implemented a variety of activities, proposals, science technological projects, community development funded by the government’s budget and foreign organizations. From 2005 to 2007, we have implemented the project “Capacity building for Union" sponsored by the Interchurch Organization for Development Cooperation (ICCO), the Netherlands. In 2007 we have done a small project "Improving livelihoods for resettlement areas" sponsored by Vietnam Rivers Network.  From 2008 to 2009, implemented the projects "Together farmers get rich online" and "Eliminating Mimosa pigra", funded by Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations (VUSTA). Each year, HUSTA issues 6 newsletter of Science and several times of propaganda on popular knowledge of Engineering Science, Health care, Environment, and Climate Change for community. The subjects, projects of HUSTA destine to improve livelihoods, quality of life for people especially the poor and other disadvantaged groups, contributing to reduce poverty and sustainable development.
